Hi, I'm putting together a site on which there are a few snap-shots of Elgin. The only problem is I don't really know what some of the things are called and what they are actually meant to represent.

Can anyone help?

Thanks :-D

Send Tennent a PM and ask him to look and I'm sure he'll know, it's annoying me as I did know what the first one represents but can't remember

Hi PolarBear,
Have you figured out what they are and what they represent yet? My guess with the last 2 are just that they wouldv'e been the entrance to the town at one point maybe and the other one is perhaps to do with agriculture and the fertillity of the Laich of Morays land. When you took the pics did you not think to look? :-P

When will we get to see the new site?

I'll take a better look at them next time I'm passing, and make something up that sounds about right :thumbleft:

It's going to be an extra page on the inelgin.com site.

Hi folks,
I know the first one has a fish on the corner that you can't see in this photograph. So my guess would be that Resident got it right and that these represent the occupations/food of Moray. I do know that they were erected pretty recently - either the new millennium or when the High Street was pedestrianised - and I've got a feeling that they were erected at different times. Past editions of The Northern Scot would probably tell us. Just an additional bit of useless information: the 'work of art' at the old post office roundabout - (have a look next time your passing)! I remember somebody writing to the Northern Scot about this. This was definitely erected to celebrate the millennium - and the Northern Scot letter writer wrote to complain about celebrating the millennium with "shortbread fingers"! :-D Oh well, I guess Walker's were pleased .....!
All the best

Hi Polar Bear,
One thing I am sure of - and that is that the amount of money spent on them will be quite frightening to us ordinary mortals ......!

your best bet for finiding out would prolly be to contact the museum as if i remember correctly they are replicas of items currently held in the collection
